Royal Boskalis Westminster, Boskalis, has been awarded two multi-million Euro dredging contracts in Indonesia.

Boskalis will expand the Makassar New Port container terminal on the island of Sulawesi, while on the island of Java Boskalis will prepare the land for a new petrochemical complex.

Both projects are expected to commence in the second half of 2019 with an estimated combined value of EUR75 million (USD83 million).

The Makassar New Port project includes the expansion of a new terminal at the port by 45 ha, as detailed by the port operator PT Pelindo. The dredging scope includes the removal of soft clay followed by land reclamation work, which requires the dredging, and supply of sand. Boskalis will deploy one of their mega trailing suction hopper dredgers on this project for approximately six months.

The Makassar New Port is a strategic maritime infrastructure project for the Indonesian government and gateway to the Eastern Indonesian Archipelago for international container cargos.

On the island of Java, Boskalis will prepare 95 ha of land for construction purposes of the new petrochemical complex of Lotte Chemical. Boskalis subsidiary Cofra will be supplying sand and improving the soil by drainage.

This project will be executed for the engineering and construction arm of the South Korean conglomerate Lotte. Boskalis will deploy a jumbo railing suction hopper dredger for the dredging activities.
