In the second instalment of DPC’s look into port newbuilds, we investigate projects currently under way in Europe and on the African continent using IHS Markit data.
The port developments currently under way in Europe and Africa detail a diversified picture of projects, from gas to bulk and container as well as ro-ro terminals, enabling a look into what kind of cargo these regions expect to handle in future. Most developments seem to involve bulk and container projects. This is the case for El Hamdania, Algeria, located 80 km from the capital Algiers.
“The port will include 23 berths, with a 20 m depth, and will have an annual handling capacity of 6.3 million teu. Construction has started, with the first phase of the project to be completed by 2021,” IHS Markit reports.
