Damen Shipyards Group has entered into a contract with Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) on 22 October 2019, for the materials package of a third azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug 2009, under the Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) for the Pakistan Navy.
The materials package includes scope and delivery of materials tailored to client needs, client support, a large stock of standardised components, manuals and documentation, and delivery of all components adjusted to yard preferences and building strategy.
The order follows a contract of two ASD tugs 2009 signed in July 2019. KS&EW are constructing all three vessels with Damen’s support. The two vessels will be operated by the Pakistan Navy to support its fleet.
Construction of the first two vessels is now under way, following a steel cutting ceremony held on 11 October in Karachi. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the government and navy of Pakistan as well as national industry, along with representatives of Damen and KS&EW.
KS&EW general manager shipbuilding commodore (R) Saleem Iqbal SI(M) and Damen regional director Teun Haverkort signed the contract.
