Leaders from some of the world’s most influential port cities have established a forum, which is planning a radical transformation aimed at creating an efficient, ecologically sound, digitally connected, and collaborative infrastructure. DPC looks at the actions ports are taking to make it happen
There are currently eight port cities that have joined forces in SEA20, namely Genoa, Hamburg, Helsinki, Luleå, Rotterdam, Trieste, Vaasa, and the US state of Washington. They see themselves as “the new nexus of power needed for a cleaner future” and the first meeting was held in Helsinki, Finland, in June 2019.
Attendees included port leaders; Helsinki Mayor Jan Vapaavuori; former Finnish premier and current
vice-president of the European Investment Bank, Alexander Stubb; and CEO of technology company Wärtsilä, Jaakko Eskola; along with politicians and industry leaders from China, Europe, and the United States.
